A first for 2010

It's a public holiday and here i am.. face to face with the world wide web. where everything is literally at your finger tips. I could be a 14 year old idiot and still be able to work wonders LOL.

But like everything else in this world, things are only good in moderation. i cant help but to sometimes wish things weren't as advanced as they are. But i feel like writing so i'll try not to sit here for long. i've got a sewing project to complete, books to read, movies to watch and people to catch up with.

Lately i've been feeding my brain with the following:
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon - I enjoyed this book, it was brilliantly written. Christopher definitely caught my attention with how his mind works around mathematical equations and logic. And when the character lost me the author filled in the gaps. However, I must admit that Sam's Story by Elmo Jayawardena wins me over this one.

"Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical, but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them." — Mark Haddon

  • Legion - As soon as i stepped out of that dark hall, my brother asked me the same question he'd ask me every time we'd finish a movie "1 to 10, what do you think?" and i told him "1 & 1/2, only because Michael was cute". I was left more disappointed than i had had anticipated. I really don't know what i was expecting when i first saw the trailer. I guess just mere curiousity of how else Hollywood predicts the end of days. Possibly also the fact Lucas Black was playing as I was a fan of the TV series American Gothic during my younger teen days, but even back then it was the Sheriff who caught my attention.

  • Inglourious Basterds - I may turn away during the gory scenes but i just cant say no to a Quentin Tarantino movie. And this one was bold, manipulative and even disturbing but that's just Quentin. He balances it with a fairly well twisted plot, a hint of sophistication and some humour. Brad Pitt on the other hand has some bad acting tricks up his sleeve. Such a shame. It was entertaining but at the end of the movie i couldn't help but to feel like it fell within the catagory of a Jewish revenge fantasy.

  • Sherlock Holmes - There's something about Robert Downey Jr ever since he bounced back to the scene. He's become such a delight to watch. Talented, sexy and you've got to love the wit and cunning sense of humour he puts into his characters. I'm happy that Doyle's works are still pending on my book list. As i'm pretty sure if i had read them (books), this movie might not have entertained me as much as i'd like it to. The Da Vinci Code movie being the best example of a let down after having read the book first. The movie is no masterpiece but quite entertaining.

  • The Private Lives of Pippa Lee - When i picked this up from the shelf and read the synopsis, i looked forward to watching it. I saw faces i liked and a light storyline i could follow. But as the movie got going i saw potential which made me want more from this movie but left me with missing pieces. I googled Pippa, and found out about the book but after the reviews i don't really know if i should give it a read or just let it be. Excuse my soft porn but i find Keanu and cougars a delightfully sexy combination.

  • Rock n Rolla - Ahhhh.. another Guy Ritchie film for me. Ritchie plays his territory (again). A relatively amusing movie you can just sit back, relax and watch. Guns, gangs and eye candy One Two, Gerard Butler. A little bit of homo love but i guess it's the psychotic druggie Johnny Quid that freshened it up a bit for me this time.

Well it's late, apparently i spent more time blogging than i intended too (again, as usual :P). I might be a month late but best wishes for 2010 to everyone. Like everyone else, i too have plans to get the best out of this year.

xoxo.

how i wish i could sew!

keeping this blog updated nowadays is one time consuming business. Mostly because i've just become more selective of what i want to share given that i've chosen to keep this blog public. So the filtering process itself just takes forever.

But anyways, for those familiar faces who keep happily coming back to visit with hopes to get some updates you can say YAY today.

i've been keeping up rather well. as usual things have been rather busy for me in this lovely city of Kuala Lumpur. As you would've picked up in my previous post (i think-too lazy to check which post i've mentioned it in), my Spanish is improving day by day (excluding lazy days). I'm remembering more words. Apparently for some reason at the moment i tend to understand conversations better when i'm not in them - dont ask me why. i'm assuming i feel less pressured when the focus is not on me and can process things easier. which reminds me i'm a bit behind on big numbers & time.

As for other random things, how i wish i could sew up nice blouses/shirts/dresses!! instead of just curtains, pillow cases and funny skirts (LOL) i've been desperately trying to find a convenient place to take my basic sewing to the next level. So i'f anyone has any good places in mind around serdang/bangi/kajang/putrajaya area.. pls pls with sugar on top drop me an email! i'm not looking for a diploma course so you can scratch that out of the list.

guess that's all for now.

Adiós.

i dislike vanilla coke.

a few days later and a weekend of productive solo activities and lotsa smsing with the boyfriend i find myself well rested and feeling much much better.

yesterday after class i dropped by midvalley for some retail therapy. stocked up on more books and bought a tshirt from MNG. Is it just me or is Esprit in reality just overrated? LOL i've never really liked the price tags on an Esprit item, they just make me feel cheated. i'd happily pay for a RM250 blouse from Banana Republic than one from Esprit.

anyway, since everyone is out for lunches today i decided to stay at home and cook for myself. which is much more relaxing when i'm alone cos i get to be experimental. No one in the house really eats couscous except me so i figured it was a good idea to put that to the stove. i had earlier prepared Sambal Udang so i was like, hey wonder what this will taste like - and it was delicious! i cant run from my away from my tekak melayu, i am half malay anyways! LOL.

Mom knows how much i love Sambal Udang so she made it a point to make sure i knew how to cook this dish before settling down with Michael back in OZ.

ahh.. so thats enough from me. will take a few sips of cold coke before taking a nap.

i warn you - slight emotions are included in post

i figured the best way to begin my post is to say how difficult it was for me to kick start it in the first place. typing in a few words only to delete them.. then after successfully getting a line or two out i again decide to delete everything and start again...

LOL.

I'm amused how the simplest things in life can become so complicated at times.

on a personal level, I've been feeling rather blah and restless. more so recently. Something is bothering me obviously. Perhaps some alone time would help untangled the knots in my little head. One step at a time works but only when steps are actually taken no?

Pa/dang earth/quake was my main interest since last week. I worked during the weekends to help distressed fellow citizens who made there way into M/sia. Just talking to them makes me ponder on how i take things for granted in life sometimes. I really shouldn't. No one should.

can i be gumby?

right now i honestly feel like rolling on the floor. if i was to be turned into an animal it might as well be a sloth. Hang on, i can picture myself as play doh for some reason. i wish i was gumby.

ANYWAYS my weekends are full with visits to the LCC Terminal, a spanish class and trying to entertain guests that drop by my house inbetween.

And right now i'll put a fullstop here. cos it's back to the kitchen.
